Who is Community Church of Waterford?
Community Church of Waterford is a community of believers in
Jesus
Christ who firmly believe the church is the hope of the world. As representatives of God's hope, we believe
the church needs to be the place where people can encounter God, hear His truth,
and feel safe to investigate His love and promises. We try to make it easy for
the members of our community to invite their friends and family to come and get
involved with God and with the church.
If I come to your church
service, what should I expect?
At a typical
Community Church of Waterford service, you can expect to see several things:
 |
A live band with
guitars, drums, and other contemporary musical instruments
|
 |
Praise choruses
with the words projected to help you worship
|
 |
Drama or multi-media production used to
enhance the service's theme and message
|
 |
A message with a
simple explanation of a Christian principle and that has an application to
everyday life
|
 |
Structured programs
for the kids along with a staffed nursery
|
 |
Someone you may
already know along with the friend who invited you

Is there a
difference between your Sunday morning and Wednesday evening services?
Yes, there are
several
differences:
 |
Sunday Morning (also known as
Prime Time
Sunday) - This service is designed to be friendly to those who are curious about church
and/or are seeking to learn more about God.
Through music, drama, and a relevant message, Community Church of Waterford tries to present the
basics of the Christian faith at an introductory level.
|
 |
Wednesday Evening (also
known as WOW! or Waterford On Wednesdays!) - This service is planned for
seekers and believers alike who are looking for a deeper worship experience and
Biblical teaching that goes
beyond the basics.
|
 |
About six times a year, those who consider
Community Church of Waterford to be their home church also celebrate
Communion as a part of either a Sunday morning or
Wednesday evening
service.
|
Does
Community Church of Waterford have mission and
vision statements?

What is the history of Community Church of
Waterford?
 |
Community Church of
Waterford began as an experiment to use contemporary music, drama, and a simple
message in reaching out to those in the Goshen area who were not attending
church anywhere.
|
 |
The church started
as an outreach
project sponsored by the New Paris Church of the Brethren along with several
other churches and the Northern Indiana District of the Church of the Brethren.
|
 |
The first service
for the church was held on August 15, 1992, at Bethany Christian Schools.
|
 |
For its first 2-1/2 years, Community Church of Waterford held its weekend service on
Saturday nights before switching to Sunday mornings. With the switch, the name
of the weekend service changed from Saturday Night Alive to
Prime-Time Sunday.
|
 |
The church's
Wednesday evening New Community services
were originally held in an empty Waterford auto body repair shop the core group
had rented and transformed into the church’s first office and meeting facility.
After attendance outgrew the available
meeting and parking space, the mid-week service has moved to the Bethany
Christian Schools.
|
 |
In the spring of 2002, a small group from the
church met for prayer, discussed the possibility of investing in land for the
church, and then attended a land auction. By the end of the auction, the group
had purchased an 18-acre tract of land from Kercher
Sunrise Orchards, west of Goshen. With that purchase, God opened a new window of
possibilities for the church’s future and its ministry teams.
|
 |
In April 2006, the church completed construction and opened a new
worship and meeting facility at the site: 65154 County Road 21, just south of
West Kercher Road.
|
 |
Mike Overpeck has been the senior pastor of
the church since its beginning.
